Sharing Ground Tikanga

Māoriland Sharing Ground

Wednesday 25 March – Saturday 28 March

Green space behind Memorial Hall
Main Street
Ōtaki

In 2026 Māoriland is excited to announce the setting up of a new space in the Māoriland Sharing Ground.

The Indigenous Arts Trading Post reclaims the idea of “trade” by removing money from the centre and restoring relationships as the true value.

Traditionally, trade was never about profit. It was about connection and reciprocity, the exchange of stories, skills, knowledge and care between communities. In a world where almost everything is bought and sold, the Indigenous Arts Trading Post invites us to return to whakawhanaungatanga — building meaningful relationships.

Artists participating in the Indigenous Arts Trading Post decide how they wish to exchange their work. Trade might take the form of conversation, collaboration, storytelling, skill-sharing or another act of reciprocity.

We invite everyone to enter this space not as consumers, but as participants in exchange.

Participating Artists: Numa Mackenzie, Te Matatoki – carvers, Kairaranga – weavers, Tā moko artists, Hori, Kai romiromi, Ngā Rangatahi Toa and many more….

The Māoriland Sharing Ground is presented with support from Whiti, Seven Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples and Te Wānanga o Raukawa.
